Our story
Foamd was born in Montpellier, with a filmmaker who was tired of squeezing his gear into foam that had never been designed for it.
Where we come from
Between shoots, gear travels in aircraft holds, car boots and on station platforms. Pick-and-pluck foam makes you adapt your equipment to the case: you tear out squares, pad the gaps with a cloth, and the camera ends up moving anyway. We wanted the opposite: foam cut to the exact size of your gear, put together in a few minutes and seen in 3D before you order it.
Foamd is run by Thibault Alignan, a filmmaker based in Montpellier. The cases we sell are the ones we wanted for our own shoots.
Our approach
Dimensions first
Every device in our database has its dimensions, its sources and a reliability rating. When we are not sure to the millimetre, we say so (“dimensions to confirm”) and ask you to check before cutting, rather than guess.
Cutting rules, not approximations
At least 20 mm of foam all the way round, 10 to 15 mm between two pockets depending on their depth, 15 mm under every pocket, rounded corners suited to the cutter: every cutting file follows these rules, and the configurator refuses a layout that breaks them.
You approve everything first
The cutting plan, the case size, where each item goes: you see it all, in 2D and 3D, and nothing is cut before you approve it.
Saying things as they are
No paid option is ever ticked in advance. The reviews shown come only from customers who have received their case.
We take care of everything
The gear dimension database, the layout calculation, the cutting rules, the check of every plan, the CNC cutting of the EVA foam, the fitting in the case and delivery to your door: you have a single point of contact, from the first device added to the delivered case.
