Dimensions database for photo, video and drone gear

What it is

To cut a foam to the shape of your gear, Foamd needs its real dimensions. We have gathered them in a database that the configurator and every device page use, and we are opening it up: a table of cameras, lenses, drones, gimbals, monitors, microphones, batteries and accessories.

The figures below come from the database itself and update with it: 701 items, of which 0 have verified dimensions, 409 probable dimensions and 292 are to be confirmed. 0 include at least one measurement of our own.

What each row contains

• The dimensions in millimetres (l_mm, w_mm, h_mm; d_mm for the diameter of a lens or a cylindrical item) and the weight in grams (weight_g) when a source gives it.
• The storage state (stored_state): these are storage dimensions, not necessarily those of a maker’s spec sheet. They start from a source (maker, retailer, review or our own measurement) and include, where stated, the allowance added for caps, folded propellers or a grip.
• What the dimension leaves out (dims_excludes), when we know.
• The confidence score (confidence_score, from 0 to 100), its level (confidence_level), the number of sources (source_count) and their kind (source_types).
• A stable identifier (slug) and the address of the device’s page on foamdcases.com (url).

The text values (stored_state, dims_excludes) are in French; the column names and codes (category, shape, confidence_level) are in English, as in the files.

How to read the confidence score

The score rates the quality of the sources, not certainty: it compares what several sources say and weighs each by its reliability.

• Verified dimensions (score 85 to 100): one good source or several that agree, storage state known.
• Probable dimensions (60 to 84): one solid source, without full cross-confirmation.
• To confirm (below 60): weak, conflicting or incomplete sources. Measure your own device before relying on it.

Weight of the sources in the score: our own measurement 1.0; maker sheet 0.6; retailer 0.3; review 0.15; AI estimate 0.05. Agreement between sources, a known storage state and customer feedback (fit confirmed or problem reported) adjust the score.

What the database does not guarantee

The dimensions come from maker sheets, retailers, reviews and our own measurements, cross-checked against one another: they are not laboratory measurements. A maker can change a version without changing its name, and a storage dimension with allowance is not the bare size of the device. No guarantee of accuracy: check the dimensions that matter to you, especially at the “to confirm” level. If you spot a mistake, tell us (see below).

History

• 3 October 2026 : Columns renamed to l_mm, w_mm, h_mm, d_mm, weight_g, confidence_score; added the storage state, the dimension caveats, the source types, a JSON file and a datapackage.json.
• 30 September 2026 : First publication: CSV file under the CC BY 4.0 licence (storage dimensions, weight, reliability level, number of sources).

The database is recomputed live: the last-updated date at the top of the page is that of the latest change to a row or a source.
