Which foam for your case?
Before choosing a foam, identify the case that will hold it. A good gear list is not enough: the usable dimensions of the case and the way each device is stored decide the layout.
You are choosing a case and its foam together
List all the gear that has to travel: body, lenses, batteries, charger and accessories. The configurator compares that set with the four Foamd sizes and proposes a plan. The shell is a catalogue model; it is the pockets in the foam that are computed for your gear.

You are replacing the foam of a Foamd case
Check the exact model of your shell and its size, S, M, L or XL. The foam-only option in our configurator matches the Foamd size you select. Picking a neighbouring size or comparing only the outer dimensions is not enough to establish compatibility.
Open the configurator, add your gear and select the size that matches your case. At the “Size and layout” step, deliberately choose “The foam only”: the configurator opens on the case-and-foam option. Check the option and the price shown before you continue.

You own a case from another range
Our configurator does not currently define an arbitrary case from its measurements. A Foamd foam is therefore not advertised as compatible with a third-party case. To prepare your search for a suitable insert, note the exact reference of the shell and ask the insert maker to confirm compatibility.
- Measure the usable length and width at the height where the foam will sit, not only at the rim of the opening.
- Spot rounded corners, ribs, wheel wells and other obstacles inside.
- Note the usable depth of the base and the space taken by the lid foam.
- Keep the base thicknesses and clearances required for the layout you have in mind: the raw inner dimensions are not an available pocket depth.
These measurements describe the case; they are neither a production check nor a compatible order on our site.
How should the devices be stored?
On a shoot, a bare body and the same body with a cage, handle or mounted lens take up different volumes. Physically prepare the version that will travel. For a mounted assembly, measure the whole assembly; for separate items, plan a pocket for each one and check for accessories missing from the list.

Foam cubes or custom cutting?
Once the case is identified, compare how the foam is prepared: a grid of cubes to pull out, or pockets prepared from a plan. The depths, the remaining walls and how easily each item comes out matter as much as its outline.
